Could I Pull That Off?

“I couldn’t pull that off” - How many times have we heard this ladies?

Either from our own mouths, or a friend's. The phrase feels self-deprecating - as though we don’t have what it takes to express a super cute outfit. What if, instead, we simply said: “She’s dressed in a way that embodies her personality, I can feel the authenticity of what she’s wearing, and the fact that she loves and feels comfortable in the outfit” (It’s a little lengthy, granted, but you get the idea.)

Sure, you might not look great in that particular ensemble, but it’s not because you can’t “pull it off” - it’s simply because it wouldn’t feel authentic to you.

We shine when we wear what we love, what feels like an extension of our spirit, when we’re having fun with what we’re wearing.

This look is completely different for everyone - so the next time you’re tempted to make it about comparison, as we all can do at times - choose celebration! Celebrate that the spirit of that girl is shining, and know that you can, and will, choose to let yours shine as well! Happy dressing!

How to Find your Spirit Animals

The Hum of Three by Artist and Good Friend Katie Green

Do you ever wonder why you are irresistibly attracted to certain animals, or why you keep seeing one over and over again? It’s no coincidence - those animals are messengers from beyond the world of the physical, and they’re showing up in your life to teach you, to support you, and to offer their powerful medicine to you.

The idea of a power animal has been around for thousands of years, and its something that Indigenous cultures from all over the world have shared, despite having no contact with one another. How then, can we incorporate this ancient wisdom into our modern lives, and how do we know which animal is our spirit guide?

A Star Was Born by Artist and Good Friend Katie Green

Chances are, you don’t have just one power animal, although you do have a ‘main’ helper, which has  been with you for the duration of your life. This central totem is a good indicator of what your gifts are, and how you can best use them. You, however, attract many more than one animal teacher, and on any given day can have multiple surrounding you, offering the medicine that you need most at that time.

To find which spirit animals are with you now, I’d recommend doing 2 things:

  • Start noticing which animals are “showing up” for you. What animals do you see often, either in person, or in picture, words, etc. Do people mention any animals around you? Notice the trends.
  • Before you go to sleep, ask your spirit animals to come visit you during the dreamtime. They’ll never deny you, but they might not come in animal form right away, or you might forget the dream. Keep asking nightly until they show up clearly. Any animal you dream of is of significance.

Follow the steps above, and let me know through the comments below or on facebook, which animals are showing up for you. I’ll be sharing the significance of many animals during the coming months.

Colour Therapy: Pink

I adore pink. I never did paint my room with the hue, or wear outfit upon outfit of the colour, but I’ve always appreciated how it makes me feel. And no wonder, as it’s vibration has powerful healing capabilities - pink is the colour of divine love, it’s a symbol to “let love in” - allowing you to open your heart, heal heart problems (both of an emotional and physical variety) while inviting tranquility and unconditional love into your life.

So how can you benefit from these super sweet properties? Here are a couple of my favourite ways to work with the healing energy of pink:

  • Visualize yourself surrounded by a tube of pink light. (Doreen Virtue teaches this) This will help shield you from any waves of negativity that people bring near you, while helping both individuals involved with it’s soothing rays.

  • Wear it! Pull out your pink on days when you feel like you want to celebrate love, or at time when you’re craving some sisterly support.

Gratitude for All Places

{ The garden and view from my friends' land }
On this last trip out to British Columbia, I felt my desire to live in nature reach epic heights. The idea of waking up to the sounds of the river and birds, spending my days surrounded by greenery and vegetation, and welcoming nights with a fire at sunset, makes my heart happy.

Though I really do want to live outside of the city, my time away has also encouraged me to be incredibly grateful for the aspects of urban life that I love. Coffee shops a short walk away, friends and family all around me, and a super cute neighbourhood to call home. When it comes to where you live, what are you grateful for?

Mango Mint Green Smoothie Recipe

A delicious Mango Mint Green Smoothie
Starting my mornings off with green smoothies is an obsession of mine. Not only do they taste DELICIOUS, but they also start the day off right with raw, superfood goodness. I'm in the habit of getting inspired by recipes, and then creating my own version based on my preferences and what I have in the house (or garden!) This Mango Mint Green Smoothie was based on a refreshing concoction I tried at Jupiter in Tofino, BC.

  • 1 handful leafy greens ( I used spinach & pea sprouts)
  • 3/4 cup frozen organic mango
  • 1/4 organic banana
  • 1/3 cup coconut milk
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2-3 tbsp chia seeds
  • 10-15 fresh mint leaves
  • Sweetener to taste (I used coconut tree sap, but honey, dates, raisins & maple syrup are also good choices)
  • Optional: hemp hearts, flax seeds, spirulina

Blend all, and enjoy! Happy sipping.

Make your own, and have fun with the recipe!

July's Full Moon is Here! How to Celebrate

The full moon rising over a volcano lagoon in Nicaragua
I never did pay much attention to how the moon's cycles affected me, growing up. Although I always loved the silvery white light it emanated, I didn't think of how the moon could affect me. In fact, for quite some time, I refused to believe that such seemingly insignificant transitions could affect the earth, or its inhabitants, in any way.

Then, a couple years ago, I started to pay attention. I began to notice how my emotions and energy were consistently affected by 'la luna'. The moon's phases also show themselves outwardly, regulating women's menstrual cycles and the oceans, while farmers have planted according to the moon's pull for centuries.

Now, I always make sure to honour the phases of the moon as a means to connecting with something larger than myself. Each moon phase holds a different energy and significance, with the auspicious full moon being the most celebrated. Tomorrow marks July's full moon, and to celebrate, here is a breakdown of how you can get in touch with it's power:

  • The evening prior to a full moon - Recharging Night - Get your body, as well as any crystals, food, oils, lotions, or any other substances that interact with your body in direct moonlight. Try to spend at least 2 hours under this moon if you can, to maximize it's recharging power.
  • The full moon: Releasing Night - An important night to take advantage of, and a powerful time to release any blocks you're ready to get rid of (emotional wounds, anger, sorrow, patterns). Do this aloud or on paper by saying "I am willing to release __________, and I ask that all patterns of __________ be released instantly. Thank you."
* According to Doreen Virtue, pHD

Water and the moon have been intrinsically linked for millennia
This full moon took place while I was in Nicaragua in April
